In 2020, the Club’s Committee introduced a new level of recognition – the Service Star.
The Service Star sits between the Service Award and Life Membership, and is awarded as recognition of Dedicated Service to the Club for a member who has been actively involved in Club activities on a continual basis. The Service Star may be awarded to multiple winners in any given year.
A nominee must have:
- prior receipt of the Service Award
- completed a minimum period of five years of membership
- given Dedicated Service to the Club for a period in excess of five years
The first of these awards were presented on 13 March 2021, recognising the dedicated service of many long-standing members:

Alana McDougall | 2023 | Northern Tasmania | Alana joined the Club in July 2012, and has been a Club member for 11 years. In addition to the contribution that earned her Service Award, Alana has: • served as the Northern Tasmania Chapter Captain since 2018 (five years) • been a very regular participant in Chapter activities • organised, led and provided reports and photos for a great many events, often doing all four jobs for an event. |
Bob de Bont | 2023 | Central | Bob joined the Club in January 2010 and has been a stalwart member for 13 years. He was awarded the Club Service Award in 2021 for his record to that point. Since then: • he has won the Central Chapter Champion title again (2021-2022) • shared the “Teams Champion” award (2021-2022), and • won the 2021-2022 Jinba Ittai award for the member most recognised for “oneness with the Club”. Throughout, he has been a prolific presence at events across all the Victorian Chapters, as run leader and participant, and in the pages of mxtra. For many, he is the Club’s go-to font of wisdom for “all things NC”. |
Rob Krygsman | 2023 | Eastern Victoria | Rob joined the Club in August 2006, and has been a Club member and a constant presence in Eastern Victoria for 17 years. While he prefers to work in the background, he was awarded the Club Service Award in 2021. Since then he has continued in his role as Assistant Chapter Captain for the EV Chapter, bringing his total so far to 11 years, during which time he has played a critical role in planning and implementing all of the highly-successful annual “3 Peaks” events. |
Malcolm Brand | 2023 | Central | Malcolm is a Foundation member of the Club, having joined on 10 August 1990. He has been a Club member for 33 years. He was awarded the Club Service Award in 2021 for his record to that point which included service as a Committee member between 1994 and 1995 and being editor of mxtra in the early 1990s. While family and business commitments kept Malcolm’s Club involvement to a minimum for some years after that, he rejoined the Committee in 2020 and stepped up to the Treasurer role in 2021. He is now in his third year in that position, and is doing a power of work overhauling the Club’s investments and clarifying its tax position. |
Judy Searl | 2023 | Central/Eastern Victoria | Judy has had two stints with the Club; she first joined the Club in January 2002, left in 2015 and rejoined in October 2017. In addition to the contribution that earned her Service Award, and while officially in the Central Chapter, Judy has served as the Eastern Victoria Chapter Captain for more than two years, since July 2021. As well as being a very regular participant in many Club and Chapter activities, she has organised, led and provided reports and photos for many events over her many years in the Club. |
